Superchargers

The following are manufacturers of forced induction kits.  There are many manufacturers of kits for different makes but I have only listed the Ford kit makers below.  Many of these (most actually) make kits for many other makes as well.
Positive Displacement
Centrifugal
Turbochargers

Positive Displacement

These blowers will build boost right off idle and all the way through the power band of the engine. They are my personal choice for nearly all applications.  Eaton Roots blowers are up to 60% efficient and Screw blowers are up to 75% efficient.  The old Detroit based Roots blowers (XX-71) are generally less than 50% efficient.  Turbochargers can be over 75% adiabatic efficient but overall are even more efficinet than any supercharger.
Holley Performance Products Roots type superchargers inexpensive system for draw through carbureted applications.  They have a new kit out for the 5.4 Ford which is a bit spendy but it is intercooled and appears to be a nice system.  Formerly Weiand and B&M.

Eaton modified Roots type superchargers.  Kits are available from several manufacturers listed below.  Contact Magnuson Products to purchase just the supercharger.  Magnuson also carries kits and has listings for Eaton based supercharger kits.  Eaton blowers are proven by OEM's and in my opinion are the best blower on the market as far as quality, reliability, and durability.

Look for their Roots kits

Whipple Superchargers - Eaton Lysholm Screw blowers for GM, Marine, and other applications. Eaton recently got into the Screw blower business and Whipple is their aftermarket sales outlet like Magnuson is for the Eaton Roots.  Whipple is starting to make kits for Fords now too.  They have a kit out now for the 6.8L Ford V10 that makes over 425HP.  They have a nice product line including intercoolers.  If you were going to build a kit from scratch, this is the blower to use.

Centrifugal

These blowers build boost relative to engine RPM.  The higher you rev the engine, the more boost pressure you get.  Most 6psi to 9psi kits don't even build measurable boost below about 3,000 engine RPM.

Paxton centrifugal type superchargers Over 40 years of supercharging.  Early wear-out can be a problem.  Kits can be a bit cheezy too.  Very poor product support.

Don't know much about these yet. Koenigsegg is using them now.

Turbochargers

Turbochargers offer the highest power gain potential of any conventional forced induction method.  They do have a lag and they have a cut-in speed that is usually about 1/3 redline.  These charactaristics can sometimes be a bit annoying for a street car but they are still a great way to go.  Many automotive OEM's have offered turbochargers on many different models.  Turbochargers can be over 75% efficient and have the added advantage of less back work due to exhaust drive making them the most overall efficient method of forced induction.
